Potence supply. This is where most people blow money on replacements. Size the power supply at 1.2x the total wattage of your strip run. If your LED strip draws 14.4W per meter and you're running 3 meters, that's 43.2W total. Multiply by 1.2 and you need at least a 52W power supply. Round up to the next standard size — 60W or 72W. Under-sizing causes flickering and premature failure of the PSU, not the strip itself.
Instalação passo a passo
Clean the surface with isopropyl alcohol before applying anything. Dust and grease are the main reason installations fail in the first month. I learned this the hard way when I skipped this step on my pantry cabinet and had to redo the entire run after six weeks. Measure the space first. LED strips come in 5-meter rolls but you can cut them at designated points marked with a copper pad and scissors line. Never cut between these points — you'll sever the circuit and ruin that section. Most quality strips have cut marks every 2.5 or 5 centimeters depending on the LED density and circuit design. For under-cabinet mounting, use aluminum channels. Yes, it's an extra step and costs more upfront. The aluminum acts as a heat sink and prevents the LEDs from degrading faster due to thermal buildup. I stopped installing bare strips on enclosed shelves after my first batch started dimming noticeably within a year. The aluminum channel also diffuses the light, eliminating that harsh dotted appearance you get from direct-view LED strips.

Connect using solderless connectors if you're not comfortable soldering. Wago-style push-in connectors work fine for low-current LED strips. Soldering gives you a more reliable connection long-term, but it's not mandatory for most residential applications. I use connectors for everything now — saves about 15 minutes per joint and the connections hold just as well in dry indoor environments. Wire the power supply to the strip with the correct polarity. Red to positive, black to negative. Reverse polarity won't damage most modern strips but it will keep them from lighting up, which wastes time diagnosing the problem. I once spent 40 minutes checking connections before realizing I'd swapped the wires at the power supply end.
Problemas comuns e soluções
Flickering near the power supply usually means the dimmer or controller is incompatible. Not all LED controllers work with all strips. PWM dimmers can cause visible flickering on camera and sometimes even to the naked eye if the frequency is too low. I switched to a 0-10V dimming system for my kitchen and the problem disappeared completely. If you need smart home integration, make sure the strip protocol matches your ecosystem. WiFi strips are convenient but create network congestion and have limited range inside metal cabinet enclosures. Zigbee or Matter-based systems are more reliable for this use case. I had to replace a bunch of cheap WiFi strips in my kitchen cabinets when they started dropping offline randomly — the microwave interference was killing the 2.4GHz signal inside the metal box. Waterproof strips (IP65 and above) have a silicone coating that reduces light output by roughly 20-30%. If you're installing inside a closed cabinet where moisture isn't a concern, skip the waterproof version and save money. The bare PCB strips are brighter and cheaper. I only use IP65 near the sink area where splashing is actually possible.
The adhesive on any LED strip degrades over time regardless of brand. Expect to reattach or replace sections every 2-3 years in a kitchen environment. This isn't a defect — it's physics. Heat cycling weakens the adhesive bond. Budget for maintenance, not just installation.

Most LED strip manufacturers provide cut length calculators on their websites. These tools help you determine the maximum continuous run before voltage drop becomes problematic. Generic ones like the LED Calc or DigiKey's LED strip calculator work for standard strips. If you're working with a specific brand, check their technical documentation for their recommended max run lengths at different wattages. For actual installation guides, I recommend checking the manufacturer's wiki or support pages rather than third-party tutorials. The generic YouTube videos often skip details like heat sinking and proper power supply sizing that make the difference between a strip that lasts five years and one that fails in six months. If you want wiring diagrams for common cabinet layouts, search for "under cabinet LED wiring diagram 12V" or "24V LED strip parallel wiring" — the results will show you how to wire multiple runs from a single power supply without hitting voltage drop issues at the far ends. Parallel wiring is the way to go for runs over 2 meters total.
