Passo a passo prático
2. Ajuste o tamanho para a folha A4. Configure a impressão para "tamanho real" ou "100%". Many browsers insist in scaling to fit the page, which stretches the design. If your tag should be exactly 7 cm, measure it on paper first. I once printed a batch where the design came out 8.2 cm because the browser added margins — all the tags ended up misaligned when punched. 3. Faça um teste em papel comum. This takes about three minutes and saves you from wasting cardstock. Check alignment, color contrast, and whether the text fits. Print one sheet on regular paper, cut it out, hold it next to the actual gift to gauge scale. The tag should be visible but not dominate the presentation.
4. Imprima no papel cartão. Load the cardstock according to your printer's manual. Most home printers have a "heavy paper" setting — use it. If your printer doesn't support thick paper, stick with 180g and accept that it won't feel as premium. For laser printers, avoid coating on the cardstock; it can melt onto the fuser roller. 5. Corte e finalize. Cut along the outline with a craft knife and cutting mat for straight edges. Punch the hole(s) near the top edge. Thread the twine or ribbon through. If you want a more finished look, apply a thin line of glue along one short edge, fold it over the twine, and press flat. This hides the knot and prevents fraying.
Dicas técnicas que poucos mencionam
Bleed and safe zones: if your template includes background color or images that extend to the edge, make sure to include a 3 mm bleed margin. Otherwise, after cutting, you'll see thin white lines where the printer didn't reach the edge. Most free templates don't include this, so you might need to extend the background manually in your editing software. Color mode mismatch: screens use RGB, printers use CMYK. Colors will always shift slightly after printing. Red on screen often comes out more orange or brown. If color accuracy matters, print a single test page first and adjust the hue in your editor before committing to a full batch. I usually desaturate reds and warm up yellows by about 10% to compensate for the shift. Multiple tags per sheet: you can arrange several tags on one A4 sheet to save time. Leave at least 5 mm between each tag for clean cutting. Use a grid or guide lines in your design software. With a well-organized layout, one A4 sheet can yield eight to ten tags, depending on the size.

Limitações e quando não vale a pena
Printing at home works fine for small batches — up to about 30 to 50 tags. Beyond that, the time spent aligning, printing, cutting, and finishing adds up. If you need 100 tags for a school event, consider using a professional printing service. Local print shops in Brazil charge around R$ 0,05 to R$ 0,12 per unit for offset printing on 250g cardstock, and they handle CMYK conversion and bleed automatically. The trade-off is a minimum order quantity and a wait time of one to two business days. Another scenario where home printing falls short is when you need special finishes — spot UV, embossing, or die-cut shapes. These require equipment most homes don't have, and the cost per unit drops significantly only at larger quantities. For a simple heartfelt tag with a message like "Para meus queridos avós," home printing is more than sufficient. For a corporate gift or a wedding favor, outsource it. I still keep a small stack of blank cardstock tags in my desk drawer for last-minute occasions. When a neighbor asks for help last minute or a grandchild needs something ready by afternoon, having the basics on hand means I can print, cut, and tie a tag in under fifteen minutes without searching for the right file or waiting for a delivery.
